About

John started his career in the music industry working for the legendary album cover designer Bill Smith, designing for artists including Mike Oldfield, Vanessa Mae, Mica Paris and Gary Barlow. As a graphic designer he helped the studio expand it’s portfolio to computer game packaging and magazine graphic illustrations.

John made the move to ‘New Media’ in 99 to work for the multi award winning creative studio AMX. Firstly working on Enhanced CD’s, DVD & Kiosk platforms John helped AMX grow from it’s roots in the entertainment industry to working strategically with many of the countries biggest brands helping them to understand and exploit new emerging digital channels. Throughout it’s many incarnations AMX was one of the most pioneering, innovative and respected digital agencies in the country.

Formed by the merger of Havas agencies AMX & Zinc, John worked as an Art Director for Arnold Interactive which quickly established itself as a top 10 ranked digital agency. Working closely with both b2b and b2c brands John led a number of successful large scale web projects developing user-centered design solutions, strategies for information architecture and digital interface design across multiple channels and emerging mobile devices. An integral member of the new business and pitch teams John was instrumental in growing new clients.

In 2003 John became a founding partner in Balance Design, from small beginnings in a living room within two years Balance had become a successful independent studio with a close knit team of 6 staff situated near Carnaby St. As Design Director he created an identity for the biggest music event on the planet (MTV EMA), branded the fastest growing music festival in the UK (V Festival), re-branded one of the biggest childrens TV networks (Five – Milkshake) and designed a book of the world’s coolest brands (Coolbrands).

After an incredible four years John agreed to join Harvest Digital to help develop an in-house creative department. In the last 5 years Harvest has twice been listed as the fastest growing digital agency in Marketing magazine’s league table. John has helped secure many large pitch wins including RBS, NatWest, RSC, Sage, 3M and Oxfam and developed long term relationships with Auto Trader, Chevrolet and Tesco.

John has created award winning work throughout his career and has had work published in publications including Creative Review, Create Online, Fuse, MacUser, Macworld and Type 1.

One of John’s claims to fame is that he designed the first Eminem / Slim Shady CD with his flatmate  as a freelance job. He has always denied saying “he’ll never go far with a name like that!”

A Creative Director with an accomplished record in creative leadership, highly motivated and passionate John thrives on a challenge. He is a strong communicator with excellent presentation skills.

He has have over 15 years agency experience, 14 of which as a digital specialist working with many of the worlds biggest brands including Virgin, Barclays, Sky, BT, MTV, RBS, NatWest, Five, 3M and Tesco.

John continues to be incredibly passionate and excited about the increasing and expanding opportunities for brands to engage and communicate through new emerging channels, platforms and technologies.
