Cloudburst 02

Cloudburst 2

What have I learnt this week?
Well for a start trying to compile a write a weekly blog post is incredibly difficult. For those of you with an eye for detail this post should have gone out last week! So I’ve fallen at the first hurdle, damn!

I don’t think it is over ambitious to write a weekly post, I obviously need to put together a structure where the blog almost writes itself.

I was wanting to follow up Cloudburst 1 with an insight into the ‘Post PC World’ but I think it’s now going to have to be a separate blog post. So rather than try to write something quickly and poorly I’d rather give an insight into what I have been influenced by this week.

This week I have been watching:

Some great talks from the Poke Presents day at Hackney House. Two that stood out in my opinion were from Tim Malbon – and Mr Bingo. Both are very funny and are a must see.

Continuing from last week here is another video from the inspirational John Hegarty.

This week I have been reading:
Great post from W+K London on How to get the best work out of your agency
George Prest ECD at R/GA on Advertising is Dying. Long Live Design
The story of the new
Dave Birss – A User Guide to the Creative Mind. Download the first part of this excellent book via a simple tweet.

Brilliant thought provoking blog post by Steve Price of Plan B StudioLess Is More, My Jerry Maguire Moment  Finding a balance, it happens to us all and this is a superb honest account of what we all go through.

Rei Inamoto (Chief Creative Officer at AKQA) offers up his thoughts on the future of advertising to the Art Directors Club on Twitter.

Five Points on the future of Advertising
1: The future is software
2: The future isn’t media, The future is product
3: Storytelling is bullshit. Storytelling is the past. A brands behaviour is the future
4: Campaigns are a thing of the past. Franchises are the future
5: 360 thinking is the past. 365 is the future.

Plenty to think about then!

So that is Cloudburst 02.
I’m going to leave you with a couple quotes this week. The first is from Steve Jobs, taken from the tribute video that dominated the Apple site on the anniversary of his death last week.

“I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been” Wayne Gretski

The second from my Comedy Hero Tommy Cooper

“So I was getting into my car, and this bloke says to me ‘Can you give me a lift?’ I said ‘Sure, you look great, the world’s your oyster, go for it.”
