<p>These amazing structures were commissioned by former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito in the 1960s and 70s. They were built to commemorate were WWII battles took place or where concentration camps stood. More of these amazing monuments can be seen <a title="Jan Kempenaers - Spomenik" href="http://www.cracktwo.com/2011/04/25-abandoned-soviet-monuments-that-look.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
<p>The images above are from a series by <a title="Jan Kempenaers" href="http://www.jankempenaers.info/" target="_blank">Jan Kempenaers</a> called “Spomenik: The End of History”. Between 2006 to 2009 Kempenaers trekked through the Balkans to photograph these amazing structures.</p>
<p>I&#8217;d love to visit a few of these in person just to have a real idea of the scale of them.</p>

I don&#8217;t know much about the history of this but it must have consumed a monster number of hours to produce. <p>Amazing to think that everything in the film is computer generated and that it has been produced on a desktop machine by one person.</p>

Quite a unique style which has often been copied but never executed with the same degree of skill. I had put them to the back of my mind until this week when I was going through my book library for research material.</p>
<p>I have put the locations of  their environmental designs to the top of my list of places to visit.</p>
