Schools kill creativity!

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity. Another great talk from the TED series of lectures.

A great piece of stop motion video using over 6,000 Post it notes plus a lifetimes patience. Produced for a senior project at Savannah College of Art and Design. Definitely worth a watch. You can also view the making of.

A secret engineering lab with a huge Scalextric racetrack where you can race a miniature Golf GTI. Very addictive and watching the ‘secret’ technicians picking up your Scalextric car when you crash is brilliant. Very well executed, but the times on the leaderboard are impossibly fast! An amazing amount of effort must have gone into this. The Beatles: RockBand trailer follows the beatles from their early material to breaking America and ultimate superstardom. The animation is amazing showing a great mix of both 2D & 3D, influenced by the continuous changing style of The Beatles music.
Produced by Jamie Hewlett the comic book artist, designer and co-creator of the Gorillaz. A must-see for Beatles fans and animation lovers.

Whilst doing some brand identity research recently I delved into my book collection and trawled through the traditional avenues, books that most designers will be familiar with including the Los Logos series. I then set about trawling the internet and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of sites dedicated to art of logo/identity design.
I know I have only scratched the surface with this but those that are worth a mention are Logo of the Day, Lo8os, Logolog and Logo Design Love.
As usual with these online collections some examples are good but lot’s are pretty average!

My fascination with beautiful architecture was raised to new levels yesterday when I saw this on thecoolhunter. I really need that lottery win or to be-friend a Russian billionaire who would like to finance a project!
It’s probably good that somethings are out of reach, after all that’s what dreams are made of. Frustrating but true.

When your going through this website you quickly come to the conclusion that this is a simply genius solution to what was potentially a difficult and demanding creative brief. Great short simple copy alongside superb and frustrating interaction make this an annoyingly good site. Try Drugs now!

Continuing the theme of extra large typography I spotted these excellent storage units on the Fubiz blog. I have no idea where you can buy these ( I suspect they’re European) but I am trying to hunt down the manufacturer to get some costs.
